CERAMICS (HAND-BUILDING) Learn to make simple, functional slab constructed forms with texture and printmaking techniques. This is a fun and effective way to make one of kind pieces. CERAMICS (WHEEL-THROWING) If you have ever wanted to perfect the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel or you have always wanted to try, then this workshop is for you. Tips for the intermediate potter and basics for beginners will be covered. Get ready to get your hands dirty. PAINTING This workshop will be conducted by Professor Josh Z. Yu from the Savannah College of Art and Design Hong Kong. OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING This workshop is designed to improve students’ observational drawing skills. Students will learn simple techniques that will dramatically improve their ability to draw what they see as well as their understanding of good design. OPEN FIGURE DRAWING For beginning to advanced students. Try your hand at life drawing! We will cover drawing dynamic poses, gestures, and the human form. Learn what it takes to draw a live SCREEN PRINTING Learn the basics of screen printing from preparing the screen to registering prints. Students will gain a working knowledge of this fun and versatile process from making posters to tee shirts. (Note: bring your own blank tee-shirt!) CYANOTYPE Discover how to make photographic prints using the sun! A great way to make unique pieces in the classroom or at home, cyanotype is a simple yet exciting approach to printmaking. |
Theater
No Previous Experience Required
Bring Comfortable Clothing IMPROVISATION AND CREATIVE THEATER This is an opportunity for students to explore the rules and techniques of improvisation, and the nuances of staging an effective scene. However, students will not sit through a lecture on the subject, but explore these ideas through performance after performance. This workshop will culminate in a larger group project which will be performed at the end of the event. CREATIVE WORK In this workshop student will step away from improvisation and script and explore a more creative side to the art. There will be major projects that we will undertake in this workshop and students will be allowed to choose. The idea is no longer narrative driven, but driven by creative expression. Metamorphosis In this workshop students will be working on rehearsal techniques and experimenting with different ways of performing key scenes from the play. The workshop will be very practical, with students involved in acting and directing throughout. We will be taking a close look at how to create a very stylized piece and the effect this has on the audience. BERKOFF Students will be looking at Berkoff's ideas about theatre performance and then putting them in to practice by dramatizing Tell Tale Heart, Poe. The workshop will culminate in a performance of the text that has been heavily influenced by Berkoff and his staging ideas. DUB-STEP This is a dance workshop in the style of Dub-Step. Lead by one of our most accomplished students, DJ will take you through the learning, rehearsal, and performance process of a modern Dub-Step dance routine. |

Bring Own Instrument (If possible) CHORUS A three-day workshop for choir students. Focus will be on the rehearsal and performance of 2 or 3 pieces of choral literature. Students should have at least three years of vocal experience, either as private tuition or in a full-time choir setting. CONCERT BAND A three-day workshop for wind and percussion students. Focus will be on the rehearsal and performance of 2 or 3 pieces of concert band literature. Students should have at least three years of instrumental experience, either as private tuition or in a full-time band setting. Students must bring their own instrument, with the exception of percussionist. JAZZ BAND A three-day workshop for wind, piano, guitar, bass guitar and percussion students. Focus will be on the rehearsal and performance of 2 or 3 pieces of jazz band literature. Students should have at least three years of instrumental experience, either as private tuition or in a full-time band setting. Students must bring their own instrument, with the exception of piano and percussion. ROCK BAND A three-day workshop for guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, drum and vocal students. Focus will be on the rehearsal and performance of 2 or 3 rock/pop songs. Students should have at least three years of experience on their instrument. Guitar and bass players must bring their own instrument; keyboard and drums will be provided. |

FILM WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
No Previous Experience Required Suggested to bring: Camera and a laptop with an editing software installed. THE ACAMIS 48-HOUR FILM FEST This is an opportunity for students to participate in the complete process of filmmaking, from initial inspiration to final presentation. Students will be placed in self-organizing groups and given a list of constraints to guide their filmmaking. Films will be presented in the theater at the end of the festival. Over the course of the festival, various workshops will be offered to coincide with expected student progress. Workshops will include elements of filmmaking such as: idea generation, scriptwriting, pre-production planning, on-set procedure, camera operation, lighting & sound, working with digital files, non-linear editing, music & sound effects, copyright & creative commons, and publishing. |

Suggestions: Bring a Digital Camera 2-D ANIMATION Teachers beginner programming and animation to help make short cartoons or videogame. We will be using Scratch, an animation software for our digital creations. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY Teaches principles of photography and fundamental camera techniques. Please bring camera’s that have the option of changing to manual mode if possible. DIGITAL EDITING Teacher the software used by today’s creative professionals on how to edit and enhance digital photography. |
